Today is a Saturday and we woke up early to go cycling at the nearby lake, Chenqing Lake. The lake is big and we went up a pagoda to take some photos, but the morning fog and sun made the pictures bad. We cycled around the lake and we saw some Japanese tourists at the nine-cornered bridge. That’s out of point. The scenery is similar to the Xihu in Suzhou, which is supposedly breathtaking.
Following that, we went back to his house to slack for a while and we basically watched tv and played computer. In Taiwan they have over a hundred free channels, including HBO, ESPN and all the other cable channels in Singapore. No wonder Arthur says Taiwanese enjoy watching tv.
At 5 we left the house and Arthur went to pick up his tutor from Singapore, who was holidaying with her husband. Meanwhile, I went to church and it was really like Singapore, only thing everything was in mandarin. There were many foreigners there, including an Italian family with 11 children and a Spanish family with 10 children. Wow. If that isn’t impressive enough, they all speak fluent mandarin. If you heard them talking over the phone, you would definitely think they’re native speakers. It’s probably due to the fact that they have stayed in Taiwan for almost 20 years. Thus, we see that environment really plays a big part.
After church, Arthur’s mom picked me up and we headed off to Liuhe Night Market, which is a famous tourist spot. It’s the biggest night market in Kaoshiung. The main attraction is the food. ppl mountain ppl sea.... I could smell the cho tofu when walking past the stalls and it really lives up to its name. Gosh, it’s damn smelly la. DAMN SMELLY. It smells like rotten egg dumped in a rubbish bin. Haha I haven’t tried it yet, but Arthur says he will force me to eat it. We eat some noodles, similar to hor fun, but the sauce was really sweet. Perhaps Taiwanese like their food sweet. There were lots of bbq stalls selling sotong and crabs.
oh ya there's this fried ice cream thing which i thought was quite cool
=.="
It was very crowded and is like other night markets around the world. It was quite hot and I forgot to mention that the weather is the same as Singapore. The temperature is about 26 degrees Celsius and it’s almost as humid as Singapore. We also ate some fried mushrooms and fried ice cream.
We left the night market and went to a steamboat restaurant to eat. There are two soups, one spicy and the other non-spicy.
Me, my mom, lynn and charles
The food was great and the non-spicy soup was really nice. It seems like we're eating a lot here. Haha. Eventually, we reached his house at about 1 am. So, we slept after showering and I’m actually writing this on Sunday in the afternoon because we woke up quite late and we’re slacking now. After this, we’re going to watch Pride, the ice hockey show, on DVD. PRIDE!! oh ya i bought this set of DVD in de night market for $200 NT, which is $10 Sing. hahahaha shiok. all the 11 episodes were compressed in a disk with the nano technology. cool right. and the quality is actually not bad.
Bye.
Day 3
After writing the journal for Day 2, I watched about 4 episodes of Pride while Arthur was playing some Taiwanese computer game. Then we went to sleep and woke up to eat dinner with his parents and cousin while his brother stayed at home to mug for exams. We went to this posh restaurant. Well actually it’s two restaurants, Muddy Waters and Mamamia. They’re both run by the same company and we ate at Mamamia, which is an Italian restaurant. MAMANIA! the decoration here is very nice.
lol. Harold, me, my pap, mom and my cousin!
ill gay
We also took some pictures there. The food was good, well all the food that I’ve eaten here tastes good. After that we were supposed to go to another night market to go shopping but it was too late as the market closes at 1030. I forgot to mention that there was lightning in the sky. It isn’t usual lightning if not I wouldn’t be telling you. It was really scary and very bright. Later we found out that there was a thunderstorm approaching. Rain is a rare occurrence, or so my guide Arthur tells me. We dropped off to buy some food and drinks in preparation for the Man U-Chelsea match, but Taiwanese people do not watch soccer. Sighs so we’re stuck here at 1 am with nothing to watch. What a waste. We saw the advertisement on TV that said the match was at 11.55 but looks like we were fooled. Sians. So it’s really boring and we’re going to do something else, but I don’t know what. Night.
