Day 4

Today we went to a 17 storey shopping mall. We went to the bookshop there and bought a few books using the book vouchers Arthur's mom gave us.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Haha today is a good day because we bought 2 international bestsellers, Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian and Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner. With these books, the 4 hours plus ride to Taipei on Thursday will be much more fun. Haha. After shopping, we went to watch The Prestige. Yes yes yes it’s very late but how can you blame us? We were busy studying for exams when the show was out. Haha. The theatre was the same standard as those in Singapore. Actually, I knew the entire plot and story already, so I was trying to spoil it for Arthur. The show was great and it’s a bit scary that the guy killed himself every night. Arthur is actually quite sharp because he spotted were actually twins. He said they have the same smile.

After the show, we walked to a famous night market selling clothes and bags etc. There wasn't many people at that place, which was good news for us. After a while, I realised that the things they sold were the same in every shop and it got very tiring after a while. Sorry, we’re not seasoned shoppers that go shopping for like 5 hours non-stop. Haha. We didn’t really buy much, I got a Bermudas and Arthur got a shirt and coat. His mom said that he looked like a girl in the coat because he looked so thin. We shopped for about 2 hours and took a bus to some terminal. We were lucky and the bus came in 3 minutes. After that, we got off at the terminal and we met his dad, who was also waiting for the same bus. How coincidental. The second bus came in like 3 seconds. The supposedly 1 hour plus bus journey took less than half an hour. Wow. The bus can’t be compared to Singapore, but it’s not that bad either. His mom picked us up from the bus stop and we grabbed some food from 7-11.

Taiwanese love convenience stores. There are like zillions of convenience shops around. Every 50 metres you can see a shop. Arthur says because you can pay bills, buy food and receive letters there. Anyway, we ate some seaweed rice thing that was really delicious. It’s probably due to the fact that we didn’t eat dinner because his mom bought so much popcorn for us during the movie. Oh, the transportation system in Taiwan is not as well developed as Singapore and people travel mostly by motorbikes. The traffic rules are not very strict either and motorcycles can move even though its red light...

I think my English is getting worst because I don’t even want to read what I wrote. I bet its rubbish and grammatically incorrect, but its supposed to be casual. But whatever, its late already so goodnight.

Day 2

Today is a Saturday and we woke up early to go cycling at the nearby lake, Chenqing Lake. The lake is big and we went up a pagoda to take some photos, but the morning fog and sun made the pictures bad. We cycled around the lake and we saw some Japanese tourists at the nine-cornered bridge. That’s out of point. The scenery is similar to the Xihu in Suzhou, which is supposedly breathtaking.

Following that, we went back to his house to slack for a while and we basically watched tv and played computer. In Taiwan they have over a hundred free channels, including HBO, ESPN and all the other cable channels in Singapore. No wonder Arthur says Taiwanese enjoy watching tv.

At 5 we left the house and Arthur went to pick up his tutor from Singapore, who was holidaying with her husband. Meanwhile, I went to church and it was really like Singapore, only thing everything was in mandarin. There were many foreigners there, including an Italian family with 11 children and a Spanish family with 10 children. Wow. If that isn’t impressive enough, they all speak fluent mandarin. If you heard them talking over the phone, you would definitely think they’re native speakers. It’s probably due to the fact that they have stayed in Taiwan for almost 20 years. Thus, we see that environment really plays a big part.

After church, Arthur’s mom picked me up and we headed off to Liuhe Night Market, which is a famous tourist spot. It’s the biggest night market in Kaoshiung. The main attraction is the food.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
ppl mountain ppl sea....
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I could smell the cho tofu when walking past the stalls and it really lives up to its name. Gosh, it’s damn smelly la. DAMN SMELLY. It smells like rotten egg dumped in a rubbish bin. Haha I haven’t tried it yet, but Arthur says he will force me to eat it. We eat some noodles, similar to hor fun, but the sauce was really sweet. Perhaps Taiwanese like their food sweet. There were lots of bbq stalls selling sotong and crabs. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
oh ya there's this fried ice cream thing which i thought was quite cool
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

=.="

It was very crowded and is like other night markets around the world. It was quite hot and I forgot to mention that the weather is the same as Singapore. The temperature is about 26 degrees Celsius and it’s almost as humid as Singapore. We also ate some fried mushrooms and fried ice cream.

We left the night market and went to a steamboat restaurant to eat. There are two soups, one spicy and the other non-spicy.

The food was great and the non-spicy soup was really nice. It seems like we're eating a lot here. Haha. Eventually, we reached his house at about 1 am. So, we slept after showering and I’m actually writing this on Sunday in the afternoon because we woke up quite late and we’re slacking now. After this, we’re going to watch Pride, the ice hockey show, on DVD.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
PRIDE!! oh ya i bought this set of DVD in de night market for $200 NT, which is $10 Sing. hahahaha shiok. all the 11 episodes were compressed in a disk with the nano technology. cool right. and the quality is actually not bad.

Bye.

Day 3

After writing the journal for Day 2, I watched about 4 episodes of Pride while Arthur was playing some Taiwanese computer game. Then we went to sleep and woke up to eat dinner with his parents and cousin while his brother stayed at home to mug for exams. We went to this posh restaurant. Well actually it’s two restaurants, Muddy Waters and Mamamia. They’re both run by the same company and we ate at Mamamia, which is an Italian restaurant.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We also took some pictures there. The food was good, well all the food that I’ve eaten here tastes good. After that we were supposed to go to another night market to go shopping but it was too late as the market closes at 1030. I forgot to mention that there was lightning in the sky. It isn’t usual lightning if not I wouldn’t be telling you. It was really scary and very bright. Later we found out that there was a thunderstorm approaching. Rain is a rare occurrence, or so my guide Arthur tells me. We dropped off to buy some food and drinks in preparation for the Man U-Chelsea match, but Taiwanese people do not watch soccer. Sighs so we’re stuck here at 1 am with nothing to watch. What a waste. We saw the advertisement on TV that said the match was at 11.55 but looks like we were fooled. Sians. So it’s really boring and we’re going to do something else, but I don’t know what. Night.

heloO!!! i reached Kaoshiung alady!!! i'm with harold now. for these days both Harold and me will be blogging, so if you see those post with better english and expression, it must be him. haha. yup so Harold will start off for today.

Day 1

Welcome to Taiwan. The land which Chiang Kai Shek fled to. Oh well I’ll spare you the history details. Today is the first day and we hopped onto China Airlines for a 4 hour ride. Arthur and I watched Tokyo Drift and I was listening to my ipod as well as looking out the window. I sat at the window seat by the way. The sunset was really quite nice.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We reached Kaoshiung International Airport at 6.50. The first thing that we noticed was that the signs were inverted. I thought that it was because the advertisers didn’t pay up but Arthur came up with a hypothesis that it wasn’t time yet to put up the advertisements. The airport was small, nothing compared to Changi, but we shouldn’t go on comparing because every city is different.

We rendezvoused with his younger brother and mother then headed off to eat. Haha fancy us eating after having dinner on the plane. Anyway Kaoshiung is very different from Singapore. Firstly, there aren’t many high rise buildings as compared to Singapore. Next, there aren’t many street lamps around. So the roads are almost bathed in darkness. It reminds me of Malaysia because of the small roads and the roadside signs. It’s a bit like taking a ride through Geylang at night. Then, we went to toilet bowl restaurant to eat. Yea! You heard it right! Toilet bowl restaurant. What the right? Hahaha. So it’s a themed restaurant.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

You sit on toilet bowls and they serve you food in like toilet bowls.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Haha they even have the vegetable saucers shaped as buttcheeks. The food was quite good, although mine tasted vaguely like Indian curry due to the beef and potato. The ice cream was shaped as poo. Seriously, but it had two layers, one brown and one white, which tasted like milk. It was nice and the ambience was refreshing and ingenious. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

hey hey!

here i am again.

went to marina square today with my primary sch frens! it's hilarious, as usual. haha. watched the battle wits togther. but i thought the movie was sub-standard. the music wasn't very nice, the directing was lousy ,the thole story was so predictable, and the settings were not stylish...zzz. the only thing i liked was Andy Lau's costume. very babylonian and stylish.

AND WE FINALLY GOT TO TAKE PICTURES TOGETHER!!!! you know, since primary 6 until now, we've never taken a picture togther, until today. haha. the only picture that contains all of us was our graduation picture, which i have lost...

so that's ronson, aikwee, shiyun, amanda, michelle, and me! yupp and this is qian bian eggy, kind ron, the always-laughing-for-no-reason shiyun, siao siao amanda, cute cute michelle and arthur. LOL.

amanda and shiyun went to raffles place for a job interview at night. and they didn't even know wad job they were interviewing for!!!like wad de hell. eggy, ronson and me were all so worried that they would get conned, so we followed them all the way to that place to make sure that they were all safe n sound. so after the job interview, they still didn't know wad they were doing......so i was like =.=" the only thing shiyun knew was that her church fren(who introduced them to this job) was earning $2400 a month being a 17 year old....very gullible sia.

i always feel so relaxed and comfortable with them de. like i can laugh and talk cock without any worries. probably it's because shiyun and amanda's laughters are always so cute and infectious, probably because we only meet up once in a while, or probably it's because we're frens since primary sch, the time when we were all still innocent and genuine. hah. i think it's all of them. really love this bunch of frens.

juz been told that my uncle ( ok this guy is my grandpa's younger brother's son. and he's going sec 1 next year...lol) got 229 for his PSLE...which was way below his expection of 240....hai. now he can only go GanEngSeng or smth...

on the other hand, i juz completed my PAE. so my choices were

1. SA science
2. SA arts
3. AJ science
4. AJ arts
5. CJ science
6. CJ arts

from wad i got for prelim, 14- (CCA 1)-(HCL 2)-(first 3 months 2)= 9. so i should be safe for SA. but wad if both SA n AJ don't take me? that means i'll end up in no where cos CJ's principal, brother paul came to our sch and had a speech, saying that he would rather take a 16 pointer who put CJ as de first choice rather than a 12 pointer who put CJ as the 6th choice....zzz...nvm lo at most go holiday for 3 months =.="

the 435 chalet was fun. although i was the only person who's not from 435, but i know like 80% of the class...so i was invited there lo. wee played soccer, tennis, PS2, talk cock and lotsa stuff. haha. i bought a big bottle of Absolute Kurant for everyone, in the end we only drank like 1/4 cos the dry shots were too strong. so i brought de rest home....lol. 77 bucks. yeah we talked our hearts out n all...really had a great time. thanks guys!!

i'm leaving for taiwan on friday! and i'll only be back on probably 20+ december ba. don't miss me too much! haha. tell me if you guys wan anything from taiwan. preferably local food instead of gold bars n diamonds k?

this hair nice ya? but so beng...

haha. it's all over.

get ready your chips and coke for a long post!

hmm...not being arrogant or over self-confident lah. but seriously i think that it was not a hard exam when compared to our sch's prelim. well well, afterall it's juz an ordinary level examination. ok i shall write down my review on each and every subject so that i can have some mental preparedness when i'm about to receive my results.

English: B3
the compo i did was average, hope can get some safe marks can alady. the compre was easy though. but it's cambridge exam eh...i think the standard for english is very high right....so i'll juz aim for a three.

Chinese: A1
yay my first A1.

Higher Chinese: A1
come on man, everyone said that it was as HARD as an express chinese paper. later come out if i don't get a one can go tiao lo alady...

A maths: A1
hmm paper one was easy, paper two was ok. but i got one whole long question wrong alady. so let's pray that the rest of the questions i did were all correct, and that everyone else did badly!!! haha gimme A1 please!

E maths: A1
wg told me that the mark for A1 last year was 93....uh. that demoralised me. lol. but should be able to get A1 lah...

History: B3
the paper that was supposed to either make me or break me. unfortunately, it was the first. i spent 2 whole weeks juz preparing for history 2158, and if i would have spent the time on other subjects, i think i will be scoring all A1s alady, seriously. our teacher-in-charge Ms Mara was so sad that she cried after the paper. hai. damn the ppl who set the hardest paper in the recent 20 years. but we know, we've all tried our very best. pray for me, please.

Combine humans: B4
uh i wasn't supposed to be counting on this subject since i had history which was (supposed to be) a guaranteed A1. so....don't expect much from this....hmm i alady knew i will regret for not studying this subject which i can actually finish within 3 days. however, i never knew that i would regret SO much for not studying it as the questions that came out were exactly wad our sch teachers had spotted. hai. nvm don wanna talk about it le.

Physics: A1
my physics have been quite ok all along, but somehow my chemistry score is always higher than physics......but i'm quite confident this time since i've completed my practical and papers well. i love physics much more than chem

Chemistry: A2
since my chem hasn't been very good all along, i'll juz aim an A2 first. the MCQ was like quite hard lah....but fortunately the paper 2 was ok.

so my L1R5 will probably be
HCL+AM+EM+PHY+CHEM+HISTORY
which hopefully can total up to 9 points? that should be able to get me into VJ or NJ. cool.

so far i haven't felt the post exam emptiness yet. probably because i've been playing none stop since the last paper. haha

first it was KBOXING!!!!! wen to the kbox in cine on thursday night with wg, yy and tania. the session started at 8 and ended at 4. ya. there's no typo. haha, we actually sang for 8 hours. only one word to describe it: shiok. haha.by the time we came out of kbox, there were only 4 of us on the whole of orchard road. yes ONLY 4 of us. then we went for breakfast at mac and went home after that. so i have been awake for 24 hours continuously. haha only if i have this kinda stamina for studying man.

photos!

ill why do i look like a ghost with SINGLE EYELIDS?
ok this is much better

told you there were no one there. we were literally walking on ORCHAR ROAD.

liberation!

aiyo why so blur. the taxi uncle take for us one lah. nvm the idea is there...

yup so i reached home at 5+ and slept till 12. went to immigration to renew my passport and then went down to VIVO CITY! it's really like super big lah and it was ppl mountain ppl sea there. there's an open area on the 3rd level and it felt like it's ground floor up there cos the whole area is like chao big. basically you can find any shops in vivo.

was supposed to meet skye n sam they all at about 5, but they made me wait till like 7. my hp battery died, my ipod battery died, and my legs were so tired after walking vivo city 2 rounds. i was damn pissed. and dno wad drove me to buy a 10 dollar phone card in order to contact sam....ya so they finally showed up after my 4 hour wait. zzz. caught casino royal at 9:45. nice. the whole plot was very unpredictable and the movie is fast-paced. still got so many movies to catch!

you can actually see the port and many big crusiers at vivo. nice nice. and there was this mono rail transportation system which i thought was damn cool.yay!guess wad are these. and whether they're real.

woOhoO so today went to queensway with sam n sky again to get our new boots. walked around and compared the prices. i didn't know that the shoes were really sososo much cheaper than other places in singapore. generally all the shops are selling boots at 2/3 of the retailed market price. like WOW. shiok. eventually we decided to but from the shop "salom and sons" which was opened by an ex sji boy. so he gave us a bit of further discount...like 5 dollars or smth. i bought a pair of mercurial vapour the second grade one, a new ball and a pair of shin guards. probably will join irwin they all tml to test my new boots. can't wait man!!

yeah so i guess that's about it. cheers guys!

incase you're wondering wad's this weird song i'm playing,

it's called "dedication", sung by Vitas, who's a Russian.

he's a MALE SOPRANO as the range of his voice stretches from a male one, and exceeds a female's. mad right.

this song might sound scary, or weird initially. but after awhile, you'll be addicted to it, juz like me....

blah. if you have time, and that your chinese standard is there, try this poem. * ones are my favs.
